Maison de la Chasse: Gite
Maison de la Chasse was our project for 2015. Originally home to the farm workers and latterly used by the local hunt (Chasse) for their weekend meetings, the property has now been fully renovated to provide fabulous holiday accommodation. It is an extremely spacious detached house with four main bedrooms sleeping 10 people and the option of a 5th double bedroom if the occupiers don't mind sharing a bathroom.
Maison de la Chasse is set slightly apart from the other two houses in its own private grounds and overlooks the pastures where the owners keep their horses as well as the sand school where the horses are trained . The garden is fenced which makes this an ideal property for people wishing to bring dogs.
One of the main features of this property is the beautifully arranged outdoor living space and private pool. The main aspect of the garden and terrace is South facing therefore it is flooded with sunshine from morning through to sunset. As well as a covered gazebo with comfy seating for relaxing in there is a large covered dining area built off the back of the house.
(Maison de la Chasse is only open from May to end October. In May, June, September and October, Chasse can be let on a part occupancy basis using just the downstairs rooms which includes a double bedroom and the bunk room, sleeping 6 in total)
The Kitchen and Living Rooms
The large kitchen sits at the garden end of the groundfloor living space and is well equipped with a large gas range cooker, fridge-freezer, separate drinks fridge, dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine etc. A woodburning stove provides heating for the cooler months. We provide the kitchen basics such as tin foil, cling film, baking paper, tea towels and dish cloths and cleaning products.
The dining area can accommodate up to 12 people but is usually set up for 8 or 9. To one end of the dining room is a comfy sofa so the cook can take a break now and again! The kitchen opens onto a separate covered seating area and terrace for outside dining.
The washing machine is in a separate utility room off the main hall and in turn leads onto a downstairs cloakroom and loo.
The main living accommodation is upstairs where there is a large open space with three comfy sofas and TV /DVD player at one end and pool table /games area to the other end. The high beamed ceiling gives a wonderful feeling of space. A variety of CDs, DVDs, books and games are provided.
There is also a small room behind the lounge which can be a fifth bedroom. It has a double bed and a sink set to one corner. It also doubles as a storage room / breakout room for when we do painting or yoga holidays.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms
There are two spacious bedrooms with luxury Italian style walk in showers on the first floor, separated from the lounge area by a small lobby. Each has the original wooden flooring and beamed ceilings and both have built in wardrobes.
Downstairs there are also two bedrooms; a large double bedroom and a kids bunk room with 2 sets of bunks (Sleeps four). Kids love this room which is decorated in a nautical theme.
There is a further bedroom off the upstairs sitting area with a double bed
although for shower facilities the occupier needs to use the downstairs shower room or share one of the en-suites. Alternatively this room can be used to store equipment if you wish to visit us to paint, for yoga etc.
The Swimming Pool and Outside
Maison de la Chasse has its own private 9m x 4m heated pool located in the garden behind the house. The pool has been carefully landscaped and built in behind a wall to one side and decked all around so that it appears to be in the ground. This does, however, mean that it is a pool with the same depth throughout (1.1 metre) and has a normal vertical ladder to get in and out so is not suitable for very young children. The pool area is fenced and gated for security and safety reasons. There are sun loungers on the deck and on the patio to the front of the house. Your hosts Karen and Robert will clean and treat the pool daily and will ensure the cover is put on it the evening and taken off in the mornings, so less for you to worry about.
The garden is fenced to the side to give privacy from the other houses and opens out to pastureland on the remaining side with views over the distant countryside. The garden area was our special project and is Robert's pride and joy! Every stone in the beautiful feature wall around the pool was lovingly laid and pointed and the fabulous wooden gazebo was designed and built to make the most of the lovely views.
There is plenty of parking at the side of the house. The house has internet access with wifi connection. (though with old houses having thick stone walls access to the wifi can be restricted) UK TV and radio is provided via satellite. For cooler months the ground floor living area has a wood burner. The main bedrooms have electric heating and the bathrooms all have heated towel rails.
Bicycles can be securely stored in a separate barn.
